[ElasticScaling] Kusama AH Rollout Checklist #10637
Description
Steps to rollout 3 core elastic scaling runtime & node support. Ordering is important.
Initial comms & runtime upgrade
- Inform collator operators about this checklist and what will be required of them.
- Collators update to the latest 2509, or even better 2512 if it is released in good time.
- Check reliability dashboard
- Runtime upgrade to stable 2512 (optional we could release with 2507 similarly)
- Prepare the runtime with the following changes
- ElasticScaling (ES) config asset-hub-kusama: Prepare ElasticScaling with 3 cores on asset hub kusama and enable buffered election export polkadot-fellows/runtimes#1018
- Critical buffered election export change [KAH] Enable buffered election export polkadot-fellows/runtimes#1034 to prevent era shrinkage with multi-core operation.
- Publish referendum to upgrade KAH runtime
Collator configuration update
- 24h ahead of enactment time all collators switch to slot based authoring (
--authoring=slot-based) - There is a window of time between collators switching to the slot-based authoring and the runtime enactment where the block confidence is degraded. Our goal is to minimize the window as much as possible
- Post upgrade monitoring (block times, collator performance metrics, reliability dashboard)
Can be done at anytime
- Cores: Referendum to assign 2 more cores to AHK
